NATURE OF THE COMMUNITY

The suburb of Rosetta is part of the City of Glenorchy which is l0kms north of the capital city,  Hobart. It is largely residential, overlooks the Derwent River and is in close proximity to the city business centre. Members of the community have access to a wide variety of employment, business and recreational opportunities.

Much of Rosetta was originally farming land although a large proportion of this is now hidden by houses streets and gardens.  The suburb continues to grow as new housing developments extend in the nearby hills and young families establish themselves.

There are numerous clusters of units occupied by older members of the community  and there is a small percentage of rental properties.

A strong sense of community is demonstrated by the number of sports and interest clubs, churches and support given to small businesses in the area.

The Rosetta Primary School caters for approximately 400 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and has an excellent reputation. Our students are wide ranging in abilities and interests.
The school was rebuilt in 1985, after the original buildings were destroyed by fire in 1982, and is of a modern and unique design featuring excellent facilities.  The classrooms are single and dual units which enable students to experience different learning environments.  Most students who choose to attend Rosetta Primary School remain for their eight years of primary education and proceed to one of the neighbouring high schools.

The school has an active P & F Association which is a strong voice and support body for the school, organises fund-raising activities and participates in parent education programs.
Rosetta School Council functions as a management body for the school and its community.
